What would be a good scanner if I just want to scan some photos?

I had a scanner that I rarely used, and then it just stopped working and I had the scanner in my printer, which also stopped working. I really don't need a scanner for anything but some photos, so I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars, but I don't want the quality to be awful either. I've tried Google, but there are SO many mixed reviews. Suggestions?
